Who’s behind Language Virtuoso?
My name is Ana Fernández Ramos. Based in Granada, Spain, I work as a translator, transcreator, sworn translator and interpreter, proofreader and editor. I have been working in the language-services industry since 2009. My working language combinations are English, Italian, German, and French into Spanish.

Academic qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Translation and Interpreting
Postgraduate Diploma in Translation and Technology
Master’s Degree in Institutional Translation

I graduated from the University of Granada in 2008 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Translation and Interpreting, specialising in legal and financial translation. To stay up to date with international affairs and developments in translation technology, I went on to complete a Postgraduate Diploma in Translation and Technology at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya in 2010, followed by a Master’s Degree in Institutional Translation from the University of Alicante in 2011.
Since then, I have spent extended periods living in countries where my working languages are spoken. I have also continually expanded my professional expertise through many continuing professional development courses in a range of specialist areas. These have helped me develop a thorough command of the terminology used in the texts I translate and proofread, while refining my writing style and communication skills. You can find a selection of these courses in the Selected continuing professional development courses section below.
Internships
After completing my degree, I gained valuable experience through work placements at the Translation and Documentation Unit of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in Rome in 2008 and at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Translation in Brussels in 2009. These formative experiences strengthened my language skills, introduced me to the workings of international organisations and shaped the rigorous, quality-focused approach I now bring to my clients.
My work today
I work with clients from a wide range of sectors, including businesses, institutions and private individuals. I also regularly provide freelance translation services to several EU institutions and bodies, including the European Commission, the European Parliament, the European Union Agency for Asylum (EUAA), the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) and the Translation Centre for the Bodies of the European Union. The consistently positive feedback I receive from their in-house linguists reflects my commitment to delivering accurate, polished and reliable work.

Values
Rigour + Precision + Creativity
I see my work as a constant search for the ideal balance between precision and technical rigour –particularly in terminology – and creativity and elegance, with the right tone of voice for every situation. To me, even an instruction manual for a small household appliance or a private letter deserves the same care and attention to style as a literary text or a report for an international organisation. Whatever the subject or format, I am committed to delivering the highest standard of work I can for every client.
Dialogue and transparency
I believe that ongoing dialogue and full transparency with clients are essential to understanding their expectations fully and delivering the right solution. After all, I am not only a language professional – I am a consumer too, and I understand the importance of receiving a service that is clear, responsive, and tailored to one’s needs.
Continuous improvement
I believe in continually developing my skills and expanding my knowledge, including through regular exchanges with other professionals in the language industry. I welcome feedback on my work and actively encourage clients and colleagues to share their constructive comments. Their perspectives help me refine my approach and continue improving the service I provide.
Human intelligence
I recognise the importance of keeping up to date with technological developments and the value of digital tools for streamlining terminology research and quality control. Nevertheless, I believe that translation should be the work of a qualified professional with extensive practical experience and sound judgement – qualities that artificial intelligence cannot replace. In this regard, my clients can have complete peace of mind: every piece of work I deliver is based entirely on my own expertise and experience, with their privacy fully protected.
